STUDENT LIFE

Encountering Christ

Catholicism is central to our mission. For this reason, every school day includes Mass. We teach theology out of the Bible, the Catechism of the Catholic Church, and papal documents. Other important ways we live the faith include annual pilgrimages and retreats, modest and wholesome extracurricular activities, and sacred art and crucifixes adorn the hall and the classrooms.

Faith in Our School

  • Daily Mass

  • Weekly opportunities for Adoration

  • Retreats, Confession, and Spiritual Formation

  • Faith incorporated into every subject

  • Chaplains or regular visits from priests and religious

Faith Traditions

All Souls Day Procession

The students and teachers of the Chesterton Academy of Omaha, along with the priests and parish of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, gather for Mass annually on All Souls’ Day.  Mass is followed by Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, and a Eucharistic Procession through the nearby cemetery. Students and faculty lead the community in prayer for the Holy Souls in Purgatory.

Marian Consecration

With great thanksgiving to God for all he has done for the Chesterton Academy of Omaha, we annually consecrate the school to His Mother Mary. We ask Mary for her protection and guidance as we continue bringing the light of Christ into a world of darkness.
“Have you strayed from the path leading to heaven? Then call on Mary, for her name means “Star of the Sea, the North Star which guides the ships of our souls during the voyage of this life,” and she will guide you to the harbor of eternal salvation.” —St. Louis De Montfort, The Secret of the Rosary

Liturgical Living

We celebrate the Saints of the Church on their Feast Days as they occur throughout the year.  Families volunteer to bring images and books of the saint, and often times treats that are from their country of origin.  The students enjoy learning about the great men and women who had steadfast faith, never giving up.

Lessons and Carols

Originating in 1918 at King’s College, Cambridge, the Festival of Lessons and Carols was designed to enrich the Advent experience with a narrative of the Christmas story through readings and music. In this service, we listen to nine Scripture lessons which recount the Fall, the promise of a Messiah, the Incarnation, and the Great Commission to preach the Good News. Each lesson is followed by a carol or other song that reflects on the lesson’s message and a brief prayer. It’s a simple, yet profound format that eloquently captures the essence of the season.

This festival is more than a holiday event; it’s a reminder of God’s enduring love. It offers a moment of peace and contemplation, inviting us to reflect on the deeper meanings of the season.

Chesterton Academy of Omaha is proud to be a selected choral ensemble for Gaudete, the annual Advent Lessons and Carols for the Omaha Chamber Singers.  Gaudete is presented at 3:00pm on Gaudete Sunday, the third Sunday of Advent, at the historic Dowd Chapel on the Boys Town Campus.

Drama Productions

A Christmas Carol

Chesterton Academy students present the timeless tale of Ebenezer Scrooge as he takes an honest look at his life.  We journey with the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future during this classic tale of conversion. We are honored to present this to the Omaha community.

Spring Play

Drama is core to the whole person, therefore all students participate in theater productions during their time at Chesterton Academy.  The Spring Play features all students in grades 9-12.

House System

Chesterton Academy’s House system is drawn from the 1,000 year-old tradition of Christian education exemplified in the colleges at Oxford and Cambridge. The Houses provide real, tangible community within the larger school, giving students the opportunity to take ownership, fulfill the call to leadership, and to cultivate the ideal conditions for virtue. Each House has two Senior and two Junior prefects, two faculty advisors, and several parent liaisons.

Pilgrimages

Nebraska Walk for Life

We join pro-life advocates across the State of Nebraska for the annual Walk for Life in Lincoln.  Many of our students also travel to the March for Life in Washington, D.C with local parishes and youth groups in the Archdiocese of Omaha and the Diocese of Lincoln.

Rome Pilgrimage

Chesterton Academy juniors and seniors have the opportunity for a pilgrimage to Rome and Assisi, Italy. We will join with other Chesterton schools across the nation and explore this holy city.  They encounter relics from the saints, sing for the Holy Father, and see in real life the wonders of the ancient churches in the Eternal City. We are planning our first pilgrimage in the spring of 2026!
